Classification And Application Analysis Of Single-phase AC Motors

Apr 02, 2025

Single-phase AC motors are a common type of motor and are widely used in many fields such as household appliances and industrial equipment. According to different working principles and structural characteristics, single-phase AC motors can be divided into multiple types, each of which has its own unique characteristics and application scenarios.

The first is the resistance-started single-phase AC motor. This motor uses the method of resistor phase separation to generate starting torque, which is suitable for low-power loads such as electric fans and small water pumps. It has a simple structure and low cost, but the starting torque is small, and external equipment is usually required to assist in starting.

The second is the capacitor-started single-phase AC motor. By connecting a capacitor at startup, a larger starting torque can be achieved, which is suitable for equipment that requires higher starting performance, such as air conditioners and refrigerators. After the capacitor-started motor is started, the capacitor will be automatically cut off to reduce energy consumption.

The capacitor-operated single-phase AC motor continuously connects to the capacitor during operation to maintain the stable operation of the motor and improve efficiency. This motor is suitable for equipment that requires smooth operation and high efficiency, such as power tools, medical equipment, etc.

In addition, there are shaded-pole single-phase AC motors, in which part of the stator winding is covered by a short-circuit ring to generate a rotating magnetic field. The structure is simple and the operation is stable, but the starting torque is not large. It is often used in small electrical appliances such as electric toys and hair dryers.

In addition to the above types, there are also dual-value capacitor motors, which achieve more complex starting and operating characteristics through different capacitor configurations and circuit designs.

Understanding the classification of single-phase AC motors will help to select the appropriate motor type according to the specific application scenario, thereby improving the performance and efficiency of the equipment.
